This two page spread was created for a Circle Journal Page Swap I'm involved with on ATCards.com.
All of the pages created for the groups members are to be Mixed Media featuring some collage elements.
The theme of this spread was wings, so i went with the first things that popped into my head when i thought of wings; birds, angels, butterflies, airmail.
I worked on the background with Pearl Ex powders mixed with gum arabic and water in a spray bottle, until i had got rid of most of the white paper. Then i collaged the main elements; the owl (which is a photo printed onto vellum and then embossed from behind to give some texture), the angel (also printed onto vellum) and the sections of envelopes which i had kept as i loved the bird postage stamps on them.
I then drew the butterfly, this is the part of the page i had no plan for; i just started to draw and a butterfly emerged. As for the colours, the blues had been dictated by the owl and angels background colours; the red i used as i wanted some contrast in the layout, and it also echoed the splashes of red on the airmail envelope scrap i had used.
Behind the top wing of the butterfly is a revolving disc (old mini disc) which i drew hearts with wings on. I added this disc as i wanted some movement in the page, after all wings are not much good if they don't move!
The final elements i added to the page was the little butterflies (taken from an embellishment booklet and coloured with glitter gel pens) and the word 'Wings'
